One day an employee Jonathan knew for many years commented that there were no new opportunities to move up to within the company. He said he always worked in marketing and wanted to learn the operations side of the business. Jonathan hadn't realized that there was no professional growth program in place to encourage employees to grow professionally and personally. Establish an interdepartmental council to provide choices of professional and personal training to all employees. Create a work environment that supports both professional and personal growth. Build in ways to help employees cross departmental lines.
Choice 3 Send workers away to school to learn specialized skills. When they return they will be in the same jobs but they will be more productive. This would improve their current job skills.
